The Kowloon East (KE) Region mounted an operation, codenamed "MICROLLER", on March 24 and 25 to combat village burglary in Tseung Kwan O District (TKODIST) and Sai Kung Division (SKDIV) prior to the Easter holidays. Officers also used the occasion to promote the message of hiking safety.

The operation aimed to tackle village burglary through a four-pronged approach of prevention, education, intelligence gathering and enforcement. In addition to high-profile patrols, officers distributed anti-burglary leaflets to residents and advised them to strengthen household security by installing anti-theft devices. They cultivated a good relationship with community partners with a view to obtaining intelligence for combating village burglary.

Over 130 officers took part in the joint operation. They came from the Police Tactical Unit (KE), Regional Crime Prevention Office of KE, Task Force Sub-Unit of TKODIST, Police Community Relations Office of Wong Tai Sin District and Rural Patrol Unit of SKDIV. They conducted patrols in villages and at popular hiking sites such as Sai Kung and Clear Water Bay Country Parks. Members of Senior Police Call also helped distribute crime prevention leaflets to the public.
