The Police Public Relations Branch held an Open Day at JPC@Pat Heung on April 21 to let the public learn more about the Pat Heung training centre and the multi-faceted nature of police work.

Chief Inspector of JPC@Pat Heung Tse Yu-ngai said that the training centre serves members of Junior Police Call (JPC) and Senior Police Call (SPC), youngsters, students and ethnic minorities. This was the first time that the training centre was opened to the public since it was established last year. The event not only introduced the objectives and facilities of the training centre to the visitors, but also aimed at promoting community engagement and enhancing public understanding of police work as well as the JPC and SPC schemes.

The open day offered a diversity of programmes, including a joint counter-terrorism exercise as well as performances by the Police Band, the Police Dog Unit, artistic cyclists and music groups. The training centre also put on display special police vehicles and uniforms from different decades. In addition, some 20 games and exhibition booths were set up by various Police units as well as arts and sports clubs.

Visitors also took part in other activities such as a zipline, a photo session for children in mini police uniform, laser gun shooting, horse riding, "Dialogue in the Dark", and "Aerodynamics – Fly with Just a Piece of Paper", which was co-organsied with the Hong Kong Science Museum under the Hong Kong Science Festival 2018.

Located at Pat Heung in Yuen Long, the JPC@Pat Heung was formerly a Fire Services Training School. Upon completion of its renovation works in mid-2017, the training centre was officially opened on August 10. Covering an area of 29 000 square metres, it provides a range of indoor and outdoor training facilities as well as 200 hostel places. It offers discipline, technology, physical fitness and team building training to JPC members, and also training venues and programmes to SPC members, schools and youth organisations. So far, more than 14 000 people have received training there.
