In recognition of the close partnership between the Force and the Muslim community, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung attended two Islamic "Iftar" dinners in May for breaking the daily fast during the Muslim month of Ramadan.


According to Muslim faith, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is called Ramadan, during which Muslims pray and fast from sunrise to sunset.


Commissioner Lo attended a dinner hosted by the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong on May 21, together with Kowloon West Regional Commander Cheuk Hau-yip, Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) Commander Chow Yat-ming, Wanchai District (WCHDIST) Commander Tse Kwok-wai, YTDIST Deputy Commander Ma Wai-hing, WCHDIST Deputy Commander Ng Chi-chung and several senior officers of the two Districts. Other dignitaries at the dinner included Under Secretary for Home Affairs Mr Jack Chan, Commissioner of Correctional Services Mr Lam Kwok-leung, consulate representatives in Hong Kong and local Muslim leaders. Chairperson of the Trustees Mr Zoheir Tyebkhan hoped Hong Kong would continue to promote racial harmony, and expressed gratitude to the Force for their concern to the non-ethnic Chinese community.


On the invitation of Chairman of Islamic Union of Hong Kong Mr Azizul Rahman Suffiad, Commissioner Lo joined another dinner on May 28 with Director of Crime and Security Li Chi-hang, Commander Tse Kwok-wai and officers of WCHDIST at Masjid Ammar and Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre in Wan Chai. Other guests included consulate representatives in Hong Kong, government officials and dignitaries from various organisations. Mr Suffiad thanked the Force for its commitment to maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest and most stable societies in the world, as well as promoting ethnic harmony.
