警聲

The "2017/18 Ceremony to promote Service Excellence and Integrity Management" took place at the Police Headquarters on June 1, with the presentation of awards and souvenirs to Force units and awardees for their excellent service. A Force-wide contest, "My Police Story", was also launched at the event. The contest seeks to promote professional pride by encouraging officers to share their own stories, highlighting the noble virtues of Honour, Duty and Loyalty.

Officiating at the ceremony, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung thanked the awardees for their efforts and contributions, and praised their innovative ideas. He emphasised reinforcing professional pride to strengthen integrity management.

Commissioner Lo stressed that the Force has been recognised in four distinct ways. Firstly, the Central People's Government has praised the work of the Force. Secondly, Hong Kong is experiencing the lowest crime rates since 1975. Thirdly, the results of the Police Service Satisfaction Survey and the Public Opinion Survey 2018 indicated that Hong Kong citizens have a high degree of confidence in the Force. Finally, the recent court rulings have affirmed the efforts of the Force to maintain justice.

Meanwhile, a souvenir and certificates were presented to Deputy Commissioner for Efficiency Mrs Patricia Lau and the E-Police Division (EPOL) of Information Systems Wing in appreciation of the assistance offered by the Efficiency Office and EPOL in carrying out the Staff Opinion Survey 2018. The survey was conducted directly by the Force for the first time.

'My Police Story' contest launched

Director of Management Services Kwok Yam-shu then launched the "My Police Story" contest. He explained its objectives and encouraged officers to share their real-life police stories, boosting professional pride and unfolding the hidden value of everyday police work. To reinforce his message, a thought-provoking microfilm depicting two uniform officers on patrol was presented in the ceremony.

With the slogan of the contest: "A small role…. but profound impact", Mr Kwok explained, "Even unrecognised and routine duties can have a profound impact on the lives of Hong Kong citizens. This is what I mean by 'profound impact'. If we understand this, we will know that there is no such thing as a small role for police officers." He added that police work itself is full of honour and pride.

All Force members are welcome to join the contest. The deadline for submission is August 31. For details, please visit the Ethics Corner of Police Intranet or contact the Internal Investigations Office. The microfilm has been uploaded onto the Ethics Corner and the Police Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/HongKongPoliceForce/videos/1854039428017346/)
