The Police College collaborated with Associate Professor Dr Andy Cheng of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (RS) in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to conduct a research with a view to enhancing the effectiveness of the College's physical training programmes in 2016. Upon completion of the research in early 2018, Dr Cheng delivered his findings and recommendations to the Police College.

Based on the findings and recommendations, the Police College launched this year a one-year pilot project, entitled "FitLink", together with Clinic Director of the Rehabilitation Clinic of PolyU Dr Amy Fu, Dr Andy Cheng and Clinical Associate Dr Billy So from RS as well as their professional team. The project aimed to enhance the understanding of Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) about sports damage, and to strengthen the effectiveness of physical training for trainees.

The pilot project is implemented in phases. Dr Fu and her team organised three knowledge-sharing sessions for PTIs at the School of Foundation Training in the first quarter of this year. They spoke on the prevention of sports damage, including common causes of sports injury, damage management techniques, recovery training exercises and injury prevention methods. Afterwards, the Police College will work with the PolyU personnel to optimise its physical training programmes.
