The Research Unit of Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB) organised a seminar for the Triad Experts Cadre at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on September 28. The seminar provided a knowledge exchange platform for Force triad experts and was the second of its kind held this year.

One of the veteran triad experts, Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island Yu Tat-chung, shared with cadre members his invaluable experience in tackling triad crimes over the past 18 years. He stressed the importance of keeping track of the trends of triad societies, triad-related court cases and related legal advice. He encouraged the cadre members to remain steadfast in their duties as triad experts, and reminded them not to forget the original intention of joining the cadre. He also urged them to pass the torch to new members.

Mr Yu has been a Force triad expert since 2000. He has provided expert opinions at court about triad societies and their activities in Hong Kong. He has also given expert advice to case officers in the investigation of triad cases.

The Triad Experts Cadre is one of the Volunteer Secondary Duty Cadres in the Force. Under the co-ordination of the Research Unit of CIB, the cadre comprises about 80 members serving in the Police Headquarters and Regions. The cadre will soon recruit new members. Details will be announced in due course.
