The Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit (FCSV) attended a forum on "Handling Child Abuse Cases Involving Drug Abusing Parents" on October 5. The forum was organised by the Social Welfare Department to enhance the mechanism for handling child neglect cases with substance-abusing caretakers.

Over 100 people from law enforcement, medical and welfare sectors attended the forum to exchange views on child protection policies. Superintendent of Crime Wing Support Group Ng Chui-ting kicked off the forum with a talk on "Criminal Investigation of Child Abuse Reports". She explained to the participants the relevant legislation and the Force's enforcement strategies, followed by case sharing.

Then, speakers from the Hospital Authority, the Hong Kong Christian Service and The Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers introduced platforms to identify and follow up children and families in need of welfare services. On the other hand, a speaker from the Department of Children and Family Services in California, the United States, outlined the provision of child protection services in Los Angeles. The forum concluded with a group discussion in which the participants shared their experience and challenges in handling child abuse cases.

The forum offered a platform for the Force to demonstrate its commitment and professionalism in handling child abuse cases. It also enhanced the participants' understanding of child protection work in both local and international contexts.
