The Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) held an opening ceremony of its redesigned and renovated Counterfeit Detection Laboratory on January 16, with Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Ho Yuen-ha and Chief Superintendent of CCB Tsang Ching-fo as officiating guests.

The laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments, including the latest model of video spectral comparator, stereo microscope and image display system. This enhances the ability of CCB's Expert and Support Section (E&S Section) to examine counterfeit banknotes, coins, passports, identity cards, payment cards, financial instruments and other security printed documents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tsang said, "The renovation project and the acquisition of advanced instruments help ensure that CCB officers stay ahead of the curve in detecting counterfeits, and enable frontline officers to get faster access to accurate information to assist in the investigation of counterfeit and forgery cases." He said that with the rapid development of technology, new security features had been added to banknotes, identity documents and passports all over the world. It is, therefore, necessary for CCB officers to keep abreast of the times and work with other law enforcement agencies and working partners worldwide to combat counterfeiting and forgery.

Apart from providing daily inspection and examination services, the E&S Section offers emergency support and assistance to other units in their operations and investigations. For details, please contact Chief Inspector (E&S) Tang Shun-yan or Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860-5012.
