Director Lau Chi-wai signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on behalf of the Hong Kong Police College, with Professor Hector Tsang from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (RS of PolyU) on February 21 to implement "Project FitLink". The project aims to enhance the effectiveness of police physical training with the help of sports science. The project not only benefits police trainees, but also facilitates the research work of the PolyU.

The MoU provides a framework for the development of the project and strengthens collaboration between the Police College and the RS of PolyU. The scope of research will be broadened to enhance the physical performance of police trainees and enable them to maintain their physical fitness throughout their police career. The project also provides opportunities for the RS of PolyU to collect useful data for research to optimise physical training of the Police College.

Ms Lau thanked the research team and Police Physical Training Instructors for their contribution to the project. She encouraged the project team to keep up the good work and turn a new page for police physical training.

The Police College and the RS of PolyU commenced "Project FitLink" in 2018. Professionals of the PolyU shared the expertise of sports science with Police Physical Training Instructors and conducted curriculum research to enhance the Force's physical training programme. In addition, the FitLink Centre was opened in the School of Foundation Training last September, with PolyU physiotherapists providing physical analysis and fitness counselling services to police trainees. The project has gained support from both instructors and trainees.
