The Major Incidents Bureau (MIB) recently conducted the fourth "Event Management Office Course" (EMO Course) and the third "Introduction to Exercise Management Workshop" to enhance frontline officers' capabilities in policing public events as well as their preparedness to handle major incidents.

The EMO Course, run by the Major Events Planning Division of the MIB, aimed to strengthen the competence of officers of newly-established District EMOs in planning and managing public events. The participants gained the knowledge of policing and co-ordinating public events, risk assessment and the administrative and command support. They also practised the skills of engaging event organisers as well as internal and external stakeholders through simulated exercises. The experience-sharing sessions given by the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, the Police Public Engagement Office and the Police Tactical Unit were well received.

The Exercise Management Workshop, organised by the Counter Terrorism and Internal Security Division of the MIB, aimed to strengthen the capabilities of officers in designing, conducting and evaluating an exercise in their respective Formations. In addition to Force participants, the workshop was also open to representatives of the Fire Services Department, the Customs and Excise Department, the Immigration Department and the Correctional Services Department. It provided a platform for the officers to share their experience and to enhance partnership with other disciplinary officers.

At the end of the training sessions, Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Mak Chin-ho presented certificates to the participants and encouraged them to apply what they learned to support the Force in overcoming the evolving challenges in policing public events and maintaining a high level of preparedness for major incidents.
