Thirty-four probationary inspectors (PIs) took part in an activity organised by Wai Ji Christian Service to reach out to people with special needs on April 6. They accompanied 25 mentally incapacitated persons, autistic persons and people with disabilities for a walk around the Shing Mun Reservoir in Tsuen Wan.

The PIs learned about the special needs of their service targets. For example, some service targets might need to be encouraged and praised while some might require physical assistance to keep them on task. The event not only promoted partnership between the Force and the community, but also enhanced the PIs' confidence and empathy in providing services to members of the public with special needs.

One of the PIs, Yuen Hin-heng, said, "The event helped me gain a deeper understanding of people with autism, particularly their personalities and ways of getting along with them. This is beneficial to my police work in future."
