The Central Unit of Hong Kong Police Operating Authority (POA) of The Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) sent two teams to participate in the AYP Rogaine Charity Race 2020 held in the northeast of the New Territories on January 19. The two teams, consisting of two officers from Junior Police Call & Youth Liaison Section (JPC & YL Section) of the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) and three JPC members from Sham Shui Po District (SSPODIST), successfully completed the 6-hour challenge with outstanding results.

Apart from possessing survival and navigation skills, participants must be able to assess their abilities before making decisions on routes during the race. Similar to an advanced treasure hunt, field orienteering requires participants to use a map and a compass to locate checkpoints. The three JPC members from SSPODIST used their map reading and other related skills acquired through the AYP Bronze Level Expedition Training Course to finish the race.

Sergeant Yau Ching-wai and Police Constable Leung Kai-him of JPC & YL Section said that they were honoured to have participated in the race on behalf of the POA, especially with JPC members of the HKAYP programme.

The POA offers training at Gold, Silver and Bronze levels to help JPC members develop a sense of responsibility towards society and positive values. JPC members are encouraged to overcome difficulties, achieve personal goals and develop potential.
