To embrace digital policing and technology application in the Force, Assistant Commissioner (Information Systems) Kwan Chui-ching led a delegation of the Information Systems Wing (ISW) to visit the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) on May 13 to explore more collaborative opportunities on the application of technology in police projects. The delegates included officers of Business Services Bureau, Innovation and Solution Lab, Information Technology Branch, Communications Branch as well as technical specialists. Chief Executive Officer of ASTRI Mr Hugh Chow and Chief Operating Officer of ASTRI Dr Martin Szeto warmly received the delegation.

The professionals of ASTRI gave an overview on its current technological development and projects, including the application of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and 5G Private Networks. The officers expressed strong interest in their endeavours and would explore room for future cooperation.

In the past years, the Force cooperated with ASTRI in the field of technology on many occasions. The ISW has recently been collaborating with ASTRI on a “Speech-to-Text” project. The project will have a trial run in the near future at Complaints Against Police Office for handling Video Recorded Interviews and Telephone Recording System, with a view to enhancing operational efficiency of officers.
