The Senior Force Management and Police College staff thanked the Honorary College Advisors for their service and contribution at the Appointment Ceremony for Honorary College Advisors on June 22.

In the welcome speech, Commissioner Tang Ping-keung reiterated that the longstanding support of the Advisors is vital to the delivery of high quality and professional training to officers. He thanked the Advisors for their important contributions to the training programmes of the Police College in various areas, which enabled the Police College to have obtained the Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) status from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. The result was a new triumph for the Police College within the Vocational and Professional Education and Training sector, as it became the first non-tertiary education institution and government department with PAA status, commencing January 2020. With this status, the Police College has the ability to operate Qualifications Framework (QF) recognised learning programmes in the Programme Area of “Law Enforcement and Security Studies” up to QF Level 5.

Deputy Commissioner (Management) Kwok Yam-shu took the occasion to present certificates of appointment to the five new and 14 reappointed Advisors. The Advisors are from different backgrounds including academia from local universities, professionals with legal or medical experience, and retired senior police officers.

The Honorary Appointment Scheme was launched in 2006 and the latest appointment brought the total number of Advisors to 31. Over the years, the Advisors have made significant contributions to the police training by giving advice relating to training accreditation and assessment matters, and in the fields of emergency medicine, leadership and decision-making, court procedures, knowledge management, diversity management, communication skills, emotional fitness, physical training, etc.
