In the first half of this year, New Territories South (NTS) Region recorded a total of 122 burglary reports, which is a slight increase of 0.8 percent compared to the same period last year. With the advancement of technology, the installation and operation of smart security system have become extremely user-friendly. Through applications installed on mobile phones or computers, users can fully utilise the monitoring, reporting and video-recording functions of the system. With a view to raising public awareness about the prevention of burglary, the Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO) of NTS produced information cards and a video to illustrate the advantages of adopting smart security system and introduce various anti-theft devices to citizens.

In August, officers of the RCPO NTS visited various housing estates and commercial and industrial buildings in the region to distribute the information cards to the occupants and property management personnel. They also provided security advice on the use of smart security system, such as installing smart wireless video-recording cameras at the main entrances and rooftops; installing sensors on main doors, glass doors and windows to trigger the indoor anti-theft alarms when intruders open the doors or windows; and setting up motion detectors in internal staircases of private premises to set off alarms when burglars walk past them. Once the anti-theft devices are connected to mobile phones through applications, users can operate the devices and receive real-time alerts with their phones.

The RCPO NTS has produced a video to demonstrate the use of anti-theft products of smart security system. Please visit the following link to watch the video:(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inV0mKtfmxo&feature=youtu.be).
