The Psychological Services Group (PSG) hosted a “Balances and Wisdom” seminar at the Police Headquarters on October 12 to promote the psychological wellness promotion theme “HERO – Healthy and Resilient Officer”. Ms Mary Cheung, Champion of the 1975 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, also a photographer, was invited to share her life wisdom and reflections through the use of photography.

The seminar attracted an audience of over 60 Force members and retired officers. Ms Cheung emphasised that we should avoid being overcritical or absolute in our thinking, but instead stay open-minded and positive. She also said that we have often overlooked many beautiful creations and scenery in our everyday lives. It would be a pity not to treasure them for many things are short-lived.

Ms Cheung expressed gratitude towards the Force for the hard work and great effort shown throughout the period of social unrest. She also expressed concern and understanding towards the enormous pressure that officers have faced over the past year. Through sharing her childhood experiences, which were days spent in an orphanage, and the four years during which she lived uncovered on the streets of Sham Shui Po, Ms Cheung encouraged the officers that challenges can always be overcome with gratitude and appreciation. Her sharing sparked great inspiration and encouragement in the participants, empowering them on how to face the challenges of policing work using different perspective-taking, a grateful heart and solid life values.

Force members are welcome to contact the PSG at 2866-6206 for enquiries or making an appointment when in need.
