In order to let members of the public know more about the stories of people who have been guarding animals in the community, the “Animal Watchers” Scheme of Regional Crime Prevention Office, New Territories South (NTS) published the third issue of “Amazing Moments with Animals” newsletter in November this year.

The newsletter, under the theme of “Love animals. Respect lives.” was launched in May this year. Apart from publising stories on helpful citizens saving animals and articles on different special topics, the newsletter also features interviews with people who work together with the Police in guarding animals. One of the previous issues introduced the “Wild Snake Rescue Project” jointly held by the Police Force, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, in order to help readers to understand the animal guarding role of the Police in snake-related cases. A snake catcher shared his duties in the interview and advised citizens on how to deal with snakes when encountering them. In the latest issue, a veterinarian of the AFCD who regularly gives body checks to police dogs was interviewed.

The newsletter has gained support from the community since launched. The public may obtain the newsletter at 250 veterinary clinics, 600 pet shops and four animal adoption centres under the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. An electronic version of the newsletter is also available for public browsing.
