On July 22, while off-duty Police Constable Ah Kit of Platoon 4 of Police Tactical Unit Z Company walked past Aldrich Bay Park in Shau Kei Wan, he noticed that an old man was sitting awkwardly on a bench with his head tilting back and both arms draping forward.

Ah Kit immediately approached the old man and attempted to wake him up, but the pale-looking old man was unresponsive to any of his questions, so Ah Kit began checking for any vital signs and detected a faint pulse in him. Without delay, Ah Kit performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him and summoned an ambulance.

Wasting no time, Ah Kit kept paramedics informed of the old man’s condition while trying his best to resuscitate him. Meanwhile, he also instructed a security guard to direct the paramedics to the scene, in the hope that the old man could receive medical care as soon as possible. Although Ah Kit tried his very best to revive the old man, the news that he had eventually passed away in the hospital still made his heart sank.

Upon investigation, it was learnt that the old man was a retiree who lived alone in a sub-divided unit. If Ah Kit had not approached the old man that afternoon, he might be discovered much later. Ah Kit said, “I did not think much when I was saving him. As a police officer, it is my duty to save lives. I will continue to do my best to serve the community.”
