Operations Wing and Information Systems Wing have launched the mobile application “Beat App” in phases since May 2021. Starting from August 30, 2021, the app will be extended to 1 600 officers in all Police Tactical Units (PTUs) (including Regional Companies and Operations Contingents), selected Patrol Sub-units (PSUs) (including Chai Wan Division, Wong Tai Sin District, Mong Kok District, Tai Po Division, Tsuen Wan District) and Marine West Division.

“Beat App” is well received by officers as it can enhance operational efficiency and alleviate the workload of Regional Command and Control Centres. According to data analysis, more than half of the record checks on persons, vehicles and vessels were conducted with “Beat App”. Over 85 per cent of the users agreed that the app’s performance is effective and outstanding.

To effectively support frontline officers, Operations Wing and Information Systems Wing will introduce enhancements to “Beat App” in August, which will increase the accuracy of the Optical Character Recognition; improve the matching of Chinese Commercial Code and the Chinese characters; enhance the notification mechanism of “wanted” persons, vehicles and vessels; provide a new sound for the “wanted” notification; and enhance the function of Global Positioning System.

Besides, five Force-wide train-the-trainer workshops on “Beat App” were held from August 11 to 17. Upon completion of the training, a total of 350 officers have become trainers for their respective Formations. Training materials are available on the webpage of the Fourth Generation Command and Control Communications System (CC4) Project on the Police Intranet (POINT) for officers’ reference.
