The Scholarship Presentation Ceremony of the Police Children’s Education Trust and the Police Education and Welfare Trust for the 2020/21 school year took place at the Police Headquarters on August 17. Officiating at the ceremony were Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, Chairperson of the Joint Management Committee of the trusts Dr Li Sau-hung and Chairperson of the Joint Investment Advisory Board of the trusts Ms Tsang Wai-sze. The two chairpersons also presented certificates to the awardees and parents.


The trusts have provided scholarships, bursaries and grants for numerous police children for over five decades, with the aim of motivating them to study hard and contribute to society. For the 2020/21 school year, the trusts disbursed over $11.6 million in subsidies to the awardees.


Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner thanked donors for their generous donations for the trusts, which reflected their recognition of the trusts’ commitment to educating the next generation as well as the community’s support for the Force. He appealed to the awardees to reciprocate the trusts after their studies for the benefit of more police children. He also thanked Dr Li, Ms Tsang and members of the trusts for their significant contribution and professional advice on the management and investment of the trusts.


Also addressing the ceremony, Dr Li congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to exert themselves to grasp every opportunity by setting personal goals and find a suitable job after graduation, so as to develop personal potential and contribute to society.


Mr Cheung was one of the awardees of the Scholarship for Outstanding Talents. Apart from sharing his experiences on learning violin and participating in international competitions, he also performed at the ceremony. A student representative of the awardees, Ms Tsui, thanked donors for their benevolence and generosity in giving recognition and financial support to the awardees. She also thanked her parents for their encouragement and companionship throughout the years and shared about her fruitful university life and the importance of holistic personal development.
