Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) was invited to share experience of large-scale inter-departmental operations and report the effectiveness of Operation SUPERCLEAR during the Kwai Tsing District Management Committee meeting held on May 20, 2022.

KWTDIST initiated the Operation in mid-2021 with a view to coordinating government departments’ resources to tackle street management issues. In a joint operation held in November 2021 at Ngong Wan Road in Tsing Yi with other government departments to curb illicit fuelling activities, officers of KWTDIST, Traffic New Territories South and Fire Services Department intercepted and arrested suspects involved in illicit fueling activities. Soon after the operation, KWTDIST, Kwai Tsing District Office, Lands Department (LandsD) and Transport Department jointly initiated the road re-engineering works in order to prevent illicit activities from reoccurrence. Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and Environmental Protection Department also conducted inspection to detect any abstracting of electricity and possible pollution, while Food and Environmental Hygiene Department was responsible for the street cleansing work.

In another clearance operation held on Stonecutter Island in May 2022 to clear abandoned vehicles, KWTDIST, in partnership with LandsD, held a public auction for the first time to deal with legally confiscated abandoned vehicles, so as to enhance deterrent effect.

District Officer (Kwai Tsing) Mr Kenneth Cheng praised KWTDIST for proactively liaising with various government departments to promote the stakeholders joining the Operation to address street management issues in a proper manner.
