To prepare for the commissioning of the third runway of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the Force and relevant formations conducted a security sweep at the third runway and relevant facilities in mid-May. Airport District (APTDIST), Key Points and Search Division, Police Tactical Unit’s Alpha Company of New Territories South, Marine Region and Special Duties Unit, together with the Airport Authority and the Aviation Security Company Limited, carried out security inspection on the runway itself and the related facilities. The inspected areas included buildings, manholes, the runway, the taxiway, as well as the adjacent venues, to ensure security of the third runway before it is designated as an airport restricted area.
