Shatin District (STDIST) launched the pilot scheme of Project SLASH in September 2021 to join other disciplinary forces offering a wide range of on-the-job experience to students in the district for them to understand the duties of disciplinary forces. Given the success of the pilot scheme, STDIST has started officially the 3-year Project SLASH since August 2022 to tie in with “Policing with the Community” in the Force’s Strategic Directions 2022-2024 to succeed in sustaining public trust and enhancing the Force’s image through the Project.

The kick-off ceremony of Project SLASH was held on August 2, 2022 at New Territories South Regional Headquarters. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, together with Regional Commander of New Territories South Mak Chin-ho, District Commander of STDIST Leung Tsz-kin, Controller of Government Flying Service (GFS) Mr Wu Wai-hung, Assistant Director (New Territories North) of Fire Services Department (FSD) Mr Yau Wai-keung, Assistant Commissioner (Boundary and Ports) of Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) Ms Ng Kit-ching, Senior Superintendent (Rehabilitation) of Correctional Services Department (CSD) Mr Chan Wing-ching and Commandant (Immigration Service Institute of Training and Development (ISITD)) Mr Hong Hoi officiated in the ceremony. Over 60 guests, including principals, teachers and students of secondary schools, attended the ceremony. Divisional Commander of Shatin Division Chan Kwok-fai and nine other Force members were appointed as the Chief Ambassador and Ambassadors respectively.

In the summer and Easter holidays of the next three years, STDIST will join other disciplinary forces to provide students in the district with an array of hands-on experience, including patrolling with frontline officers of the Force, visiting the CSD’s “Reflective Path”, joining rescuing operations of GFS, being briefed by fire fighters of FSD on fire-fighting, visiting harbour facilities managed by the C&ED and attending classes of the ISITD. Looking into the future, STDIST hopes that the Project will help cultivate correct perspective on life and positive values among youngsters.
