To promote cycling safety, Shatin District (STDIST) and Tai Po District (TPDIST) co-organised the launch ceremony of Cycling Safety Week cum award presentation ceremony of the “Pedal Smart and Ride Slow” photo contest in the Hong Kong Science Park on August 13. Deputy Commissioner (Operations) (DCP OPS) cum Chairperson of the Road Safety Council Yuen Yuk-kin officiated at the ceremony. DCP OPS remarks in his speech that the Force has been devoted to promoting and publicising road safety. A multi-agency approach is adopted to reduce fatal and serious accidents involving cyclists.

231 and 333 cycling-related accidents have been recorded for STDIST and TPDIST respectively in the first half of 2022. As such, the two Districts would step up law enforcement against cycling contraventions in accordance with the Selected Traffic Enforcement Priorities 2022. They would co-organise the Cycling Safety Week to fully utilise their resources for publicising cycling safety messages. The Districts also joined hands earlier to hold the “Pedal Smart and Ride Slow” photo contest, which was overwhelmingly responded with over a hundred submissions.
