The optimization of the Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System (MIIDSS) was completed in August to raise the Force’s capability in handling large-scale disastrous incidents and strengthen officers’ efficiency in identification of victims.

A number of automatic comparison functions have been added in the optimization to facilitate identification of unidentifiable casualties and missing persons at the scene of disaster in a more effective manner. The scope has been expanded to 186 types of specific and valuable information, such as property serial numbers and DNA information. The range of comparison can be adjusted flexibly and a more comprehensive report can be obtained in the system so that officers can identify victims more efficiently and accurately.

Whenever a large-scale disastrous incident occurs, the Casualty Enquiry Centre operated by officers from the Complaints Against Police Office is responsible for handling public enquiries on missing persons and entering information about missing persons and casualty into the MIIDSS for victim identification by means of automatic comparison in the system.
