To deal with the upsurge in the numbers of mountain search and rescue (MSAR) operations in recent years, the Mountain Search and Rescue Contingent of New Territories North (NTN) has started to take up tasks from all Regions since May for MSAR operations and operations requiring specialised MSAR skills, such as sweeping for evidence or hidden stolen property, or locating illegal immigrant haunts etc. Regions requiring assistance of the Contingent for pre-planned operation can contact Chief Inspector of Quick Reaction Force (QRF) of NTN (CIP QRF NTN) directly. For ad hoc or emergency operations, contact can be made to the Duty Controller of Regional Command and Control Centre of NTN. Upon approval of Senior Superintendent of Operations Wing of NTN (OPS NTN), the Contingent will be deployed to provide assistance at the scene.

OPS NTN established the Contingent in May 2022 with the objective of locating missing persons as early as possible in MSAR operations. The Contingent is led by a chief inspector as Officer-in-charge (OC) and five inspectors as Deputy OC, leading eight teams comprising around 60 officers drawn from the QRF and Emergency Unit of NTN. The Contingent will coordinate with the Small Unmanned Aircraft Cadre of NTN and apply the 3R Solution for higher operation efficiency.

For enquiries, please contact CIP QRF NTN at cip-qrf-ntn@police.gov.hk or phone at 3661-3160.
