The Crime Support Group, in collaboration with the Department of Justice (DoJ), held a briefing on the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance (Ordinance) on September 18 at the Police Headquarters which attracted over 1 000 crime officers to attend via P-TV live broadcast.


Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Chung Wing-man pointed out in the welcome speech that the Ordinance mandates 25 categories of professionals to report serious child abuse cases to ensure early identification and intervention. She reiterated that the new legislation aimed to improve the legal framework and encourage reporting, while the principles on which the Force handles child abuse cases remain unchanged.


Additionally, the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit, in collaboration with the Police College, held a trainer workshop from August 25 to September 2 and introduced a specially designed training package to enhance officers’ understanding of the new Ordinance and strengthen their sensitivity in handling child abuse cases.
