The Outdoor Personal Development and Adventure Training forms a key part of the initial phase of the 36-week inspector training programme. Through intensive field exercises, trainees are challenged to push their limits under fatigue and pressure, strengthening their resilience. On October 28, Commissioner Chow Yat-ming joined the probationary inspectors (PIs) as a “companion” in their climb to Sharp Peak, personally taking part in this demanding journey.

Facing steep and rocky slopes, the Commissioner and trainees climbed on all fours, supporting one another step by step against the biting wind. Each step signified a test of will, and every act of assistance reinforced their team spirit. The Commissioner completed the entire climb without any special treatment, sharing the same determination to overcome challenges.

Upon reaching the summit, all were drenched but passionate and excited inside. The Commissioner spoke candidly with the trainees, emphasising that joining the Force should not be driven by fame and fortune, but by the meaningful pursuit of accomplishing missions together as a team. He further pinpointed that true leadership lies not in rank, but in the ability to understand the hardships of subordinates and truly embodying “actions speak louder than words”. His sincere words left a lasting impression on everyone present.

The six-hour journey was not only a test of physical endurance and willpower but also a profound lesson for the PIs. The Commissioner led by actions, and instilled the spirit of leadership as a “companion” in the hearts of the trainees.
