In alignment with the Force’s Smart Policing strategy, Key Points and Search Division (KPS) of Major Events Bureau of the Operations Wing implemented the Second Phase of the Pilot Scheme for Operational Deployment of Drones on January 23.
This phase covers Cheung Chau Division (CCDIV) (including Cheung Chau and Lamma Island), Central District (CDIST) (Peak Sub-division, PKSDIV), as well as the selected Districts of the Regions. CCDIV and PKSDIV will utilise the automated drone docking system for patrols. Flight plans will be formulated by the system and flight missions will be executed automatically in accordance with preset patrol routes, achieving efficient area patrols. At the same time, downtown high-altitude anti-crime patrols will be expanded to CDIST, Sau Mau Ping, Yuen Long, and Tsuen Wan Districts. Officers will conduct downtown high-altitude anti-crime patrols through manual drone operations to enhance crime prevention, crime fighting and operational efficiency.
To enable the public to understand the scheme, KPS held a press conference at the Peak Police Station on January 15, providing detailed explanations of the implementation arrangements for the Second Phase.
The scheme utilises drone technology to realise the concept of “Smart Policing from the Sky”, enabling flexible deployment of frontline police coverage. It enhances patrol efficiency and crime prevention capabilities and facilitates the building of smart and safe communities.
