The Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance came into effect on January 20, which mandates 25 categories of professionals to report as soon as practicable when they discover in the course of their work that a child has suffered serious harm or is at real risk of such harm to ensure identification and intervention at an early stage.
Community campaign with LWB
On January 20, the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit, in collaboration with the Labour and Welfare Bureau (LWB), arranged a promotion truck to visit North District and Tsuen Wan District. Through interactive games, it deepened public understanding on the content of the Ordinance, the mandatory reporting responsibilities and the importance of child protection.

Mr Lo Siu-kit, and Chief Superintendent of Crime Support Group Yu Hoi-kwan briefed citizens on key aspects of the Ordinance, including the categories of professionals which have mandatory reporting obligations, the definition of serious harm, methods for identifying child abuse cases, and the reporting mechanism.
Promotion in secondary school with Project Legacy Police Ambassador
On January 16, the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit, together with nine Project Legacy Police Ambassadors who graduated from Good Hope School, held a thematic workshop to introduce the Ordinance to a total of 123 teachers of their alma mater to enhance their ability to identify and intervene suspected child abuse cases at an early stage.
The workshop explained the key provisions of the Ordinance, the reporting procedures, as well as the Force’s investigative processes and support arrangements when handling related cases, in order to help teachers grasp the actions to take when dealing with suspected child abuse cases.
