As the Three-runway System at the Hong Kong International Airport will soon come into full operation, a security sweeping operation was conducted in Terminal 2 of the airport between January 8 and 16. Covering an area of 167 000 square meters, the operation aimed to clear all restricted items within the terminal building. The sweep covered the immigration halls, arrival and departure halls, baggage reclaim hall and the Automated People Mover in the restricted areas, encompassing more than 600 rooms, 4 000 electrical boxes and the baggage handling system.
During the operation, over 400 representatives from the Force Search Unit, Airport District, Aviation Security Company Limited and Airport Authority endeavoured to accomplish the mission to ensure the safety of the terminal building.
