On July 18, Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) and Tsuen Wan District (TWDIST) jointly organised a kick-off ceremony for anti-drug activities, attracting more than 700 teachers and students from primary and secondary schools. Mr Au Ka-shing; District Commander of KWTDIST Wong Wang-yip; and Assistant District Commander (Operations) of TWDIST Chan Chun-cheung. Representatives from the District Fight Crime Committees, Junior Police Call Honorary President Councils, associations of heads of primary and secondary schools and district organisations of both districts also attended the event.
Wong Wang-yip said in his speech that the Force would continue with the preventive education and enforcement efforts, working together with schools and community partners to establish a more comprehensive anti-drug network to keep youth away from harmful substances.
The participants set the world record for “the most people simultaneously displaying an anti-drug slogan and a heart symbol on their palms”. Under the witness of an adjudicator, more than 700 teachers and students simultaneously wrote “NO DRUGS” on their left palms and drew a heart symbol on their right palms, symbolising care for one another and a firm commitment against drugs. They also pledged to serve as Anti-drug Ambassadors, joining hands to create drug-free campuses.
The event also featured a sharing session by rehabilitated drug abusers, while teachers and students of Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School performed a drama adapted from real-life stories, helping students understand the impacts of drugs on individuals, families and their future prospects.
In addition, cycling world champion Mr Wong Kam-po, singer Suen Yiu-wai, and wheelchair dance athlete Mr Yu Chun-yin were appointed as “Mental Wellness Ambassadors”. They shared their experiences in overcoming adversity and pressure with the students present.
