At the “Pledging to Protect, Animal Care Express” event held on July 25, children eagerly interacted with animals and posed for photos. The promotional vehicle “Animal Care Express” also made its debut and will tour across the territory this summer to promote animal care. Sergeant Ng Wai-kit, who spearheaded the event, shared pet care tips with the public while conveying the message of protecting animals and respecting life.

Promoting Love for Animals in the Community

Stationed at the New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office, Ng led publicity and education work for the Animal Watchers Programme (AWP). Over the past two years, he has organised various community events, including a charity challenge run in 2024, where 333 dog owners set a world record for “Most People Kissing Dogs Simultaneously”.

He also visits schools and care homes to deliver talks on animal care. “What I enjoy most is interacting face-to-face with children and the public,” he shared. “Through direct contact with animals, I can share messages about animal welfare and respecting life. I hope to plant a seed of respect for life in every child’s heart.”

From Care to Rescue: Committed to Protecting Little Lives

An animal lover since childhood, Ng once cared for four dogs at home and enrolled in a veterinary assistant course to better understand them. He regularly interned at veterinary clinics and found fulfillment in helping animals recover. Driven by this passion, he also volunteers as an inspector with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), participating in rescue operations and assisting in investigations of animal cruelty cases.

“I hope to use my professional knowledge to become a reliable support for them,” Ng said, noting that his hands-on experience in animal care and rescue complements his everyday policing duties.

A Daring Rescue under a Vehicle on the Highway that Changed the Fate of a Kitten

A rescue incident in September 2025 made a particularly deep impression on Ng. At the time, traffic on a highway in the New Territories had come to a standstill. A frightened kitten that had strayed onto the road was trapped between the wheels of a taxi. Ng rushed to the scene, carefully rescued the kitten and handed it over to the SPCA for follow-up. Traffic soon returned to normal, and the kitten was later adopted. “The sense of fulfillment from seeing the kitten out of danger and saving a life is beyond words.”

Sowing Seeds of Love Pooling Protection Power Together

Ng firmly believes that by sowing seeds of love in various sectors of the community today, they will eventually sprout and grow, converging into a powerful force for animal protection in society.
