The India Association Hong Kong held a ceremony on August 13 to mark the 80th Independence Day of India. Chief Executive Mr John Lee, Consulate General of India Mr Rajesh Narayan Naik, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Mr Leung Chun-ying, and Deputy Commissioner (Management) (DCP MAN) Chan Joon-sun etc. were invited. DCP MAN presented the Outstanding Police Officers Award to seven officers from the New Territories South Region (NTS) in recognition of their professional performance in handling a telecommunication fraud case.

The case occurred last December in which the father of a Chinese Mainland student studying in a university in Hong Kong received a call demanding a HK$1 million ransom. Officers of NTS swiftly analysed the victim’s digital footprints, checked the closed-circuit television footage, confirmed that the case was a telecommunication fraud, and located the victim within 12 hours. The Force then provided support to the victim through the “Hugangxuepiao Jihua” as well.
