Police-Retailers’ Liaison Meeting
The Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) held the “Police-Retailers’ Liaison Meeting” to enhance collaboration between the Force and the retail sector on August 14, which drew over 80 representatives of the retail sector.
At the meeting, CPB officers analysed the latest figures, trends and common modus operandi of shoplifting, and provided crime prevention advice to the sector. An officer from the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau introduced the latest trends and modus operandi of cybercrime, and offered recommendations on basic cybersecurity defence at the corporate level. Police Clinical Psychologist
Fung Ho-kin provided insights into the mindset and motives of offenders with a view to raising the awareness of frontline staff. A security technology company representative was also invited to share how technology can be used to enhance shop security.
Also, the CPB encouraged the sector to make good use of the “Crime Alerts Network”. The sector also supported proactively, and placed “cardboard cops” in shops to enhance deterrence.
Smart Home Security Publicity Campaign
The CPB, in collaboration with Police Community Relations Offices in various districts, launched a three-day “Smart Home Security Publicity Campaign” from August 10 to 12.
The CPB arranged a promotion truck to tour various neighbourhoods for demonstrating to members of the public how technology can enhance home security through exhibitions and interactive games. Officers also conducted a featured demonstration of devices so that members of the public could still stay updated on their home security status anytime when they were away.
Moreover, officers urged members of the public to check whether the doors and windows have been locked before leaving home, avoid posting their travel plans on social media, install smart systems with encryption features, and remember the “Three Dos in burglary prevention” - lock doors and windows, install sensors, and enable push notifications on your mobile phone.
Officers also distributed crime prevention publicity leaflets and souvenirs. Members of the sector and the public can obtain comprehensive, practical and
up-to-date crime prevention information through the CPB’s webpage “SafeCity.HK”.
