BTH High-Tech Development and Cultural Exchange Programme
Kowloon East Region (KE), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Quality Mentorship Network, organised the “GROWS Together” Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) High-Tech Development and Cultural Exchange Programme between July 17 and 24. Led by Regional Commander of KE Tse Tsui-yan, 84 students travelled to Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and other locations for exchange activities. The event received support from the Beijing Liaison Office of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Office of the Government of the HKSAR in Beijing. The exchange tour was funded by the Funding Scheme for Youth Exchange in the Mainland of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau.
The participants visited the Meeting Hall of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Museum of the Communist Party of China, the Dagukou Fort Ruins Museum in Tianjin, and Luhe High School. In addition, they visited multiple iconic corporations and scientific research bases to learn about the technological development of the country. The participants also visited Peking University and enjoyed the performances by the China National Acrobatic Troupe and the Beijing Dance Academy.
During the trip, a youth exchange sharing session was also held, where members of the Youth Group of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China, representatives of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and Inspectors of the Force were invited to share with the participants their experience and industry knowledge.
Following the conclusion of the programme, 22 participants from previous “GROWS Together” cohorts undertook a one-month internship at various institutions in Beijing.
Project Light-up
On July 31, KE, together with the KE Happy Teen Committee, launched the six-month Project Light-up. On the same day, the participants visited the KE Regional Headquarters to experience police work firsthand.
The project aims to help young people discover their potential and plan their future through diversified activities. The participants will tour the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant and the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Exhibition Center, and experience pickleball and water activities. They will also visit the Jockey Club Riding School and the Shaw Creative Hub, featuring a reel making competition and workplace experience opportunities which enable the participants to explore career pathways in apprentice jockeys and the film industry.
