Established in May 2022, the Mountain Search and Rescue Contingent (MSARC) of the New Territories North (NTN) is led by a Chief Inspector (CIP) and comprises around 90 officers from the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and the Emergency Unit of the NTN. Its members have received professional mountain search and rescue training from various bodies, such as the Mountaineering Council of Hong Kong, the Civil Aid Service and the Force Rope Access Cadre.

In addition to serving the NTN, the MSARC provides mountain search and rescue support to meet the needs of other regions. The contingent also undertakes other operations requiring professional mountaineering skills, such as searching for evidence and stolen property, and tracking illegal immigrants.

The MSARC is equipped with specialised mountaineering gears and two technological aids, namely exoskeleton suits and the R-Map Lite, to help officers carry out rural operations safely and efficiently. The contingent also works with the Small Unmanned Aircraft Cadre of the NTN, applying the “3R” search and rescue solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

Regions requiring assistance can contact CIP QRF NTN. For urgent or emergency operations, requests can be made to the Duty Controller of the Regional Command and Control Centre of the NTN. Upon approval from the Senior Superintendent of the Operations Wing of the NTN, the MSARC will be deployed to assist as soon as possible.
