Held at Tsuen Wan Park on October 10, the “Paws and Friends - Road Safety Carnival” was jointly organised by the New Territories South Region (NTS) and the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (NTS), with support from district groups, schools, as well as public and private organisations. Under the theme “Loving Animals • Safe Journeys”, the carnival covered pet travel in road safety messages for the first time and attracted more than 500 participants.

Regional Commander of the NTS Cheung Wai-wah officiated at the event. In his speech, he said that the number of fatal and serious traffic accidents recorded in the NTS from January to September this year dropped by 20 per cent compared with the same period last year, demonstrating the effectiveness of combining enforcement and publicity. He also presented appointment certificates to over a hundred newly appointed Elderly and Student Road Safety Ambassadors, hoping that they would use their influence among peers to promote law-abiding messages in the community.

Various Force units performed and set up interactive booths at the carnival. The event also featured mini electric police vehicle driving experiences and open-top bus blind spot demonstrations, helping participants learn key road safety tips for themselves and their pets.
