Three officers receive CP's Commendation

Three officers, Woman Chief Inspector Yip Yuk-ping, Acting Chief Inspector Li Fuk-wa and Sergeant Li Bu-yuen, received the Commissioner of Police's Commendations on June 11 at Police Headquarters.

WCIP Yip was praised for her leadership, professional ability, and her devotion to duty of an exceptionally high order, which she displayed while attached to the Commercial Crime Bureau as a Fraud Section Chief Inspector between May 1996 and August last year.

Now attached to the Complaints and Internal Investigations Branch, she has overseen the investigation of a series of fraud cases involving three listed companies. Ms Yip said intensive preparation had been involved not only in investigations but also during the prosecution process.

The then Senior Inspector of New Territories South Regional Crime Unit Team 1B Li Fuk-wa, and Sergeant Li Bu-yuen, were also commended for their professionalism of exceptionally high order, displayed in the investigation of a series of robbery cases from March 1997 to March last year.

Now Assistant Divisional Commander (Crime) of Kwai Chung, Li Fuk-wa said an active robbery syndicate had been crushed thanks to the investigations. His team had to start from scratch when they began the investigation.

"The syndicate was very sophisticated and left almost no evidence for further investigation," Li Fuk-wa said.

"We gathered some very tiny evidence which required comprehensive investigation before we could come up with something concrete."

No tip-offs were involved in the case and members of the RCU Team 1 could only dig out information by themselves with the limited evidence available.

Li Bu-yuen said the team was delighted the head and members of the syndicate had been convicted.

"This was an exceptionally prolonged and complicated case with diverse targets - members of our team had been under extreme pressure both physically and psychologically. When the case was over, everyone was relieved."

Other members of the RCU Team 1B received the Commanding Officer's Commendations for their excellent work in smashing the syndicate.
