High turn-out shows morale maintained

Director of Operations Dick Lee Ming-kwai hailed Auxiliary Police officers for their crowd management work which helped make this year's Dragon Boat Festival as trouble-free as ever.

Speaking at the Castle Peak Bay dragon boat event on June 18, Mr Lee said the high turn-out rates of Auxies during the festival showed their morale had not been affected by their reform.

More than 170 Auxiliary officers who were deployed on crowd management duties for the festival throughout Hong Kong turned out, including the 43 working at Castle Peak.

Mr Lee admitted when the reform was launched, some Auxies might not have fully understood the details due to insufficient communication.

"After District and Divisional commanders explained the contents of the reform to all ranks of Auxiliary Police in the past two months, Auxiliary Police officers agree the reform is heading the right direction and accept the contents of it," Mr Lee said.

He reiterated the reform would not have an adverse effect on law and order and the Auxiliary Police would not be disbanded, ensuring they would continue to help the Regulars.

"Police have enough resources and sufficient contingency measures to keep law and order. If necessary, Auxiliary Police will be called upon to help regular Police with front-line work."
