Bussed to driving school

Bus and minibus drivers are getting the road safety message through a series of seminars to help raise awareness and reduce accidents.

Some 50 Hong Kong island drivers and their instructors participated in the first seminar on April 18, at a bus depot in Wong Chuk Hang.

HKI Traffic Superintendent (Accident Investigation) Ho Ming-sun said the seminar provided a top forum for drivers and instructors to share their experiences with police.

"And participants were reminded to strictly observe road safety regulations and to adopt measures to ensure the safety of passengers," Mr Ho said.

Seminars were also held April 26 and 28, with two more slated for May 29 and 30.

Some 22,320 traffic accidents occurred throughout Hong Kong last year. Of these, 1,890 and 1,049 cases involved buses and minibuses respectively. To reduce them, Traffic will continue educational and publicity activities coupled with rigorous enforcement.
