Wong Tai Sin crowned Wallis kings

PHQ's George Leung lets rip as WTS bowler Alex Cheng waits his turn

Wong Tai Sin District took out the Wallis Trophy lawn bowls final at the Police Officers' Club on May 2.

They defeated Police Headquarters 25 to 10. Each team or rink was composed of three players competing in a round robin which was followed by a knock-out competition to decide the winner.

Steve Chung Shing-keung, Ngai Chi-shing and Alex Cheng Chau-ming made up the WTS squad.

The final was a culmination of the competition which started on March 7 with 11 formation teams competing.

The trophy was presented by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Personnel) and Chairman of the Social Amenities Council Tang King-shing. The winners received the Wallis Trophy and the winner's souvenir whilst the runners-up were presented with other souvenirs.

This competition started in 1986 as an idea by Ken Wallis to introduce new players to the game.

Over the years, many of the Force's top bowlers have been recruited via the Wallis Trophy.

The Police Lawn Bowls Club has since gone from strength to strength with some outstanding accomplishments in recent years.

They included winning the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association Mens 1st Division Summer League Championship in 1997 and 1999.
