Tai Po troopers reap praise

DC TP To Ho-kee receives the thank you banner

Tai Po District officers received top commendations on June 30 for their fight-crime efforts.

A ceremony at the Sheung Shui Police Station Officers' Mess saw Tai Po District Commander To Ho-kee receive a banner of thanks from Sheung Shui jewellery shop manager Lo Kwok-wing after officers cracked a case in which its sales records were falsified and money was lost in February last year. The case was taken up by Senior Inspector Peter Wong Poon-yam and his Sheung Shui Divisional Support Team colleagues.

After detailed investigations, a salesman was convicted last month and sentenced to two months prison which was suspended for 12 months.

Newspaper marketing company representatives Kee Wing-keung and Lau Yuk-ming also presented souvenirs and banners to officers who stopped thugs demanding protection money.

On May 25, their employees were approached by the men near Sheung Shui KCR Station, and they later vandalised the company's papers.

Senior Inspector Ben See Chuen-sang and Tai Po District's Crime Squad Team Two took up the case, going undercover as workmen for the company and busting the culprits when they repeated the demands several days later. After investigations, one of the two men was charged.

Meanwhile, Mr To presented an appreciation letter from First Lady Betty Tung, to Sergeants Chu Wai-lun and Lau Tat-shing, and Police Constable Lau Chi-hung of Sheung Shui Division's Patrol Sub-unit Team Three.

The praise was for their top work in arresting an illegal immigrant near Fanling Lodge, the Chief Executive's New Territories residence, on June 5. PC Lau injured his left hand in the operation.

Other guests at the ceremony included TP Assistant District Commander (Crime) Shek Wai-wah, Sheung Shui DVC Steve Evans, North District Councillors Chan Hing-fook and Chan Fat-hong, and North District Fight Crime Committee Chairman Yip Fong-keung.
