Wushu's that PC?

Style and grace: PC Shek in action in the wushu championships

Police Constable Shek Wing-kwong out-skilled scores of martial artists to win the Men's Junior Championship in the Eighth Hong Kong Open Nei Jia Chuan Competition on June 18.

The event, jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association at Kwai Chung's O.R. Sadick Memorial Games Hall, saw about 100 participants in 12 teams competing in 12 events.

The triumphant officer from Kowloon West Emergency Unit's Number Three Platoon attributed his success to his love of wushu and his top trainers.

"I was eager to learn Chinese martial arts as a small boy and enrolled in a training class after seeing an advertisement by the Police Chinese Wushu Club in OffBeat two-and-a-half years ago.

"I've since been learning the art from masters Tsang Tak-ning and Ho Chi-cheung who encouraged me to take part in the competition."

Club Chairman Senior Superintendent Choy Kin-cheung said that by organising wushu classes, the club hoped to introduce the art to more Force members and their families to encourage healthy lifestyles.
