Serious accidents halve on KW roads

Senior T KW officers give an Eagle Eye brief

Expected serious-injury accidents throughout Kowloon West Region dropped from 12 to 6 while Nathan Road had none at all during phase two of Operation Eagle Eye last month. Even slight accidents fell by 10 per cent in all of KW, and 50 per cent in Nathan Road.

More than 300 summonses and six fixed penalty tickets were issued to pedestrians and motorists breaching traffic regulations on Nathan Road during the week-long operation, which ended October 28.

Operation Eagle Eye was launched in March to enhance public awareness of road safety. Targeting Nathan Road's five worst blackspots, the operation helped reduce accidents to 22 that month, the lowest monthly record in the last 10 years.

During the second phase, vigorous high-profile enforcement saw KW Traffic officers summons 306 jaywalkers and three careless drivers. The six FPTs were issued for other minor offences. More operations are expected.
