CPB warning to motorists

Almost 2,100 vehicles were reported missing from January to September, up 11.2 per cent on the 1,885 reports during the same period last year. The figure for the whole of last year was 2,581, up 7.1 per cent from 2,409 in 1998.

Up to the third quarter of this year, 63.2 per cent of the missing vehicles were private cars, 25.4 per cent were goods vehicles and 9.4 per cent were motorcycles. The figures were reminiscent of last year's breakdowns.

Crime Prevention Bureau Superintendent Nathanael Nichols urged vehicle owners to follow a series of safety tips to prevent thefts, which he presented at a press conference on October 30 at the Police Public Relations Branch.
