How to keep your finances out of a mess!

RC NTN Ng Wai-kit with DSSGT Chan Ming-chiu

Some $30,000 went to Police charity coffers on November 30, with the official closure of the Regional NCO's Mess at New Territories North Headquarters, Tai Po.

In line with Force policy, the mess was required to cease functioning in its present capacity and wind up the serving mess committee. However, the question remained on the best way to dispose of outstanding monies left in the committee accounts, so a ballot of the members was taken. After six recounts and numerous official challenges through the court systems, a decision was reached and the outstanding $30,000 donated to the Police Children's Education Trust. NTN Regional Commander Ng Wai-kit received the cheque on behalf of the trust from the Mess Committee Chairman, Detective Station Sergeant Chan Ming-chiu. NTN Senior Superintendent (Administration) Blaine Hoggard said: "It is gratifying to see something very positive come from the closure of the mess. The members could have chosen to redistribute the money back to the NCOs, but they have instead unselfishly decided to support this worthwhile and very important trust."

  • New Territories North Region has designed a set of calendar cards and stickers carrying messages on healthy lifestyles, courtesy, mutual respect and integrity. They are expected to be available before January. Formations or officers interested can contact NTN Training and Staff Relations Officer Raymond Hung on 2666-4626.
