Career counsellors: Officers brief youngsters on the benefits of joining the Force
Human resources are the Force's greatest asset so only the best candidates are considered in Police recruitment.

This was the message from Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Tang King-shing speaking at the Education and Careers Expo 2001 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre, February 15.

He said Police recruited the best people and provided the best training so the best service could be provided to the community.

"In the selection of Police Inspectors and Constables, the Force attached equal importance to the candidates' academic background, physical fitness and individual character," he said.

He added that among the recruits taken on between April 1, 2000 to January 31, all Recruit Inspectors and 31 per cent of Recruit PCs were degree holders.

"As one of the major duties of a police officer is to protect lives and property, we will not just emphasise academic qualifications at the expense of physical fitness. We will continue to maintain strict physical requirements," he said.

As future law enforcement officers, Mr Tang said applicants' integrity and honesty were essential, along with a rich knowledge in current affairs, common sense and dedication to serve the community.

The Police Recruitment Group set up a booth at the Expo to attract more quality people to the Force. PRG officers explained to visitors the multifarious duties of Police and the entry qualifications. Those interested were able to fill out and submit applications on the spot.
