All tranquil on the Riviera

I am the person in charge of a franchised convenience store in Riviera Gardens, Tsuen Wan. We have often been harassed by juvenile gangs stealing our goods, and our shop was robbed by armed illegal immigrants. I felt helpless and did not know what to do.

Chau Ping-tim, our District Council member, met Tsuen Wan Divisional Commander Pang Yan-wing, and a team was set up [comprised of Police Constables Lau Lap-chow, Wong Kin-yeung, Kwong Wai-yip and Siu Sai-wah, under Station Sergeant Wai Chee-wai]. The team patrolled the area and maintained order. The crew even contacted me on their own initiative and frequently visited my shop to see if any assistance was needed.

During this period, the four PCs demonstrated their professionalism by boosting my anti-burglary and security awareness, showed me how to co-operate with police and to provide adequate information, and how to deal with the harassment from these gangs.

An ordinary citizen, I knew nothing about police work and their aforesaid actions have changed the general image of the police that I used to have. They showed concern for us small citizens, possessed honesty, faith and worked with seriousness. To me, the Force has a good image and I have high confidence in it. In fact, I learnt from the management office that the crime rate of Riviera Gardens has decreased more than 70 per cent since the set up of this team. It is now a good place to work and live in.

I want to express my gratitude to the team who has worked whole-heartedly in our area, and I praise their good work. I believe that the Police Force, under the command of Commissioner Tsang, will surely keep Hong Kong peaceful and prosperous.
