More training for Auxiliaries

Auxiliary officers have welcomed the decision by the Commissioner to provide each an additional 48 hours training per year from April 1.

The extra time would be spent on practical training for crowd management, and pre-planned operations such as anti-illegal immigration and anti-burglary manoeuvres.

Auxiliary Police Commandant Arthur Kwok Chi-shun said: "Under this new policy, we have increased opportunity to work our shifts and improve our mastery of police work. Our confidence will be enhanced and we can work more closely with Regular officers."

The additional training was voluntary and was not counted towards the Statutory Efficiency Training required of every Auxiliary.

"With close to 4,900 officers of different ranks, all Auxiliaries are well-trained and committed to serving the community. We share the same goal as our Regular counterparts in keeping Hong Kong one of the safest cities in the world," Mr Kwok said.

"We fully support the Force mission and values, and vow to live up to the slogan of 'We serve with pride and care'.

"And I hope all Auxiliaries will go a step further to accomplish the ÔFour DsÕ - dignity, decency, dedication and diligence - so our contributions to society are fully recognised."

Mr Kwok said Regional Commanders would actively consult Auxiliary representatives to make the best use of the additional 48 hours to meet policing needs in their respective Regions.

With Hong Kong becoming a more knowledge-based society, more civic-minded young people with higher academic qualifications were joining the Auxiliaries. More than 80 per cent of the latest batch of recruits were degree holders, and many were established professionals.
